Breaking Free from Big Tech: Your Email, Your Rules

Email is one of the oldest and most essential technologies on the internet — but also one of the most overlooked when it comes to digital sovereignty. Most businesses and individuals still rely on Big Tech providers like Google or Microsoft for their email, often without realizing the full implications. If you’re looking to reclaim control over your communication, there are two main paths: host it yourself or trust an expert like Soverin.

Let’s unpack what that means — and what’s at stake.

The Dream: Total Control with Self-Hosting

Running your own mail server sounds empowering. It puts you in the driver’s seat with full ownership over data, storage, and configuration. No external provider, no lock-in. But this comes with serious trade-offs:

Complexity: Email involves multiple protocols (SMTP, IMAP, DKIM, SPF, DMARC, TLS, DANE…) that must all be correctly configured and kept in sync. One misstep can lead to deliverability issues or security vulnerabilities.
Deliverability: Just sending isn’t enough. Getting into inboxes — not spam folders — requires reputation management, rDNS, IP warming, certificate rotation, and compliance with ever-changing anti-spam filters.
Maintenance: From disk failures and software updates to DDoS protection and blacklists, email servers require constant attention.
Compliance: Self-hosting means taking full responsibility for GDPR, NIS2, ISO27001, and related obligations — with little room for error.
Costs: The hidden cost of doing it yourself includes time, tooling, redundancy, monitoring, and support — all on your shoulders.
Risk: A single expired TLS certificate or DNS misconfiguration can mean total outage. Are you ready to be your own 24/7 on-call engineer?

In short: self-hosting email is possible, but at scale and with quality? That’s a different cookie.

The Smarter Alternative: Hosted by Experts Who Respect You

This is where Soverin comes in. We’ve spent over 10 years building and running privacy-first email infrastructure at scale — so you don’t have to. When you partner with Soverin, you get:

Trusted Infrastructure: Professionally managed clusters in sovereign European data centers, with real-time monitoring and high-availability architecture.
Privacy by Design: No tracking, scanning, or profiling. Your data remains yours, end to end.
Best-in-Class Protocols: We support modern security standards like DNSSEC, DANE, S/MIME, TLS 1.3, and encrypted backups — so you don’t have to figure them out.
Deliverability that Works: With a trusted sender reputation, clean IP ranges, and tuned mail policies, your messages land where they should — every time.
Sovereign & Certified: We operate under ISO 27001 (security), ISO 9001 (quality), and ISO 14001 (environment). It’s more than just best practice — it’s built into our DNA.
Compliance You Can Count On: From GDPR to the EU’s NIS2 directive, we help you meet and prove compliance.
Transparent Pricing: One fair price, no upsells, no surprise fees, no lock-in.
Human Support: Need help? You’ll talk to real email experts — not bots or scripts.

Email is Infrastructure. Treat it That Way.

Email isn’t a “nice to have.” It’s a core business function — and yet it’s often handed over blindly to Big Tech. That comes at a price: vendor lock-in, data mining, and dependence on opaque, global platforms.

Self-hosting is like building your own house. Choosing Soverin is like hiring an independent architect who builds it with you — with privacy and resilience in mind. The alternative? Renting a prefab Big Tech box that’s designed for their profit, not your control.

Choose Freedom — Not Complexity

Breaking away from Big Tech isn’t just a technical decision — it’s a strategic one. Whether you’re a startup founder, an MSP, or an IT manager, you deserve an email solution that puts you in control without making you the helpdesk.

At Soverin, we don’t just host email. We’ve spent the last decade mastering it — at scale, with integrity, and with your sovereignty in mind.
